Projects & Impact

Farms built, skills passed on, land restored

Our work is practical, climate-smart farm development across Sierra Leone – livestock houses raised from the ground, waste turned into feed, and degraded land brought back into production.

How we work

From first enquiry to follow-up visit

Every engagement follows the same route. We begin with an enquiry and a conversation about what the farm is trying to achieve. We then walk the site, look at water, shelter, feed and labour, and study the local market before anything is built or bought. From there we prepare a written plan and proposal with clear stages, so the client knows what happens, in what order, and what each stage requires.

Delivery is where our training work is strongest. Our team builds and installs the structure alongside the people who will run it – poultry houses and equipment, Black Soldier Fly production units, mushroom rooms, fish ponds and simple irrigation. Staff and family members are trained on the same site, with the same tools and stock they will use afterwards, and our consultants return for monitoring, evaluation and follow-up support.

Please note: the programmes below are representative of the work we deliver. We publish no client names, measurements or site photographs here; specific details, references and site photographs are shared with clients and partners on request.

Representative programmes

Six programmes that show how we work

Each entry describes a typical engagement – what the client asked for, and what we delivered. Names, plots and site records are held by the client.

Broiler and layer chickens inside a newly constructed poultry house
Poultry Training

Commercial broiler and layer unit

A farmer wanted to move from backyard birds to a commercial unit but had no suitable house, equipment or routine. We designed and constructed the poultry house, installed the feeders, drinkers and brooding equipment, and trained the staff on the farm in day-to-day management.

  • Focus Broiler and layer production
  • Services delivered House construction, equipment installation, staff training
  • Outcome A working unit the farm can run without outside help
Black Soldier Fly rearing trays and waste processing shed
Waste to feed

Black Soldier Fly feed-production unit

Market and household organic waste was costing a farm money to remove while feed prices kept rising. We built a BSF rearing unit and trained the operators to convert that waste into protein-rich livestock feed, turning a disposal problem into an input.

  • Focus Organic waste recycling into feed
  • Services delivered Unit construction, colony and rearing guidance, operator training
  • Outcome The approach reduces feed costs by turning farm waste into feed
Shelved mushroom production room with substrate bags on racks
Mushroom Training

Mushroom production room

A farming household wanted a second income that did not depend on the rains. We set up a sheltered production room with shelving and shade, then guided the household through substrate preparation and spawn handling for year-round mushroom growing.

  • Focus Mushroom farming as extra household income
  • Services delivered Room setup, substrate preparation, spawn handling guidance
  • Outcome Year-round production independent of the rainy season
Fish pond excavation and liner work at a farm site
Fish farming

Fish pond construction and management

A client with wet ground near a riverine community wanted to farm fish but did not know where to site a pond or how to keep the water healthy. We advised on siting, supervised excavation and stocking, and trained the caretakers in pond management and feeding.

  • Focus Pond aquaculture on marginal ground
  • Services delivered Pond siting, excavation, stocking guidance, pond management training
  • Outcome A managed pond stocked and cared for by trained caretakers
Community members planting tree seedlings on degraded land
Climate & environment Tree planting

Community tree planting and land rehabilitation

Bare, eroding ground in a farming community was losing topsoil every rainy season. We mobilised the community to raise and plant tree seedlings on the degraded land and advised on protection and aftercare, so the slope can recover its cover.

  • Focus Land rehabilitation and biodiversity
  • Services delivered Community mobilisation, seedling raising and planting, aftercare guidance
  • Outcome Degraded land returned to tree cover and protected from erosion
Simple irrigation channel watering a valley bottom field
IVS development

Integrated Valley Swamp irrigation

Farmers in a valley bottom grew one crop and left the land idle in the dry season. We developed the swamp for dry-season rice and vegetable production with a simple irrigation layout, and trained the group in water control and sustainable cultivation.

  • Focus Dry-season cropping with simple irrigation
  • Services delivered IVS layout, irrigation installation, sustainable agriculture training
  • Outcome Valley land cropped through the dry season instead of lying idle

Our delivery process

Five steps from enquiry to follow-up support

The same five steps apply whether the job is a single training day or a complete farm build.

  1. Enquiry and discussion

You tell us what you are trying to produce, what you already have and what is holding you back. We explain honestly what we can do, what it involves and what we cannot promise.

  2. Site or farm assessment

We visit the site and look at land, water, shelter, access, feed sources, existing stock and labour, then match what we find to the market you are aiming at.

  3. Written plan and proposal

You receive a written plan and proposal setting out the recommended facilities, the training package, the delivery stages and the inputs required at each stage.

  4. Implementation and training

Our team constructs, installs and commissions the facility, and trains the people who will run it on the same site, with the same stock and equipment they will use afterwards.

  5. Monitoring, evaluation and follow-up support

We return to review how the enterprise is running, help correct problems early, and provide technical advisory support as the farm grows.
